The Web Infrastructure for Treatment Services (WITS) is a collaborative information technology approach to the administration, planning and monitoring of Substance Abuse Treatment Programs. Sponsored by State AOD Agencies and SAMSHA’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), the purpose is to provide software that facilitates the cooperation and collaboration across treatment providers by enabling the sharing of client treatment information (within the constraints of HIPPA regulations).
The WITS Application provides the State and its Providers and Clinicians with:
- A secure system with confidentiality and privacy
- One central location for updating and achieving State reporting requirements
- A central data repository for monitoring and managing clinical data
- A system for States to manage Provider and Practitioner registrations and certifications, as well as fulfill reporting obligations to federal government programs
- An environment for States to share IT experience and assistance with each other
States implementing the WITS System improve their overall treatment programs by giving their Providers improved access to the necessary tools for accessing, planning and monitoring client treatment information. WITS advances the quality of treatment data to provide the States with the best treatment information for managing system outcomes.
